Arsenal makes a £20 million bid for Borussia Dortmund midfielder.

Borussia Dortmund had a fairy tale run to the Champions League final and firmly established themselves as a top European club. However, given the meagre resources over which they built their victories, there was little they could do to prevent any sort of a mass exodus of players. Bayern Munich started things off with their massive bid for local talent Gotze and then came close to claiming Lewandowski as well. The latest in line is midfielder Ilkay Gundogan who, according to the "Daily Mirror", is the subject of a £20m bid from English giants Arsenal.
The German playmaker, who is of Turkish origin, was brought to Westfalenstadion in 2011 as a replacement for the then Real Madrid bound Nuri Sahin. However, since then, Gundogan has outperformed his current teammate and was an integral part of Jurgen Klopp’s team for the past two years. Though he has maintained an interest in playing in either English or Spanish leagues in the future, the 22 year old’s father commented that the best place for his son to grow and develop currently was at Dortmund.

“I am keen to ensure he (Ilkay) remains with Borussia Dortmund. He is doing fine so it’s a bit early to move to a club in England or Spain at this point in time. Borussia Dortmund will be coming up with an offer of a new contract soon. We will be able to oversee things much better then,” his father told Kicker.

Given Gundogan’s father’s stance and Dortmund’s reluctance to sell their prized midfielder, it looks like Wenger may have to accept defeat in his adventurous bid for the player.
