Serie A: Inter 1 - 1 Juventus, Vidal's goal saves the Bianconeri for the lose.

Juventus drew 1-1 at bitter rival Inter Milan in their first Serie A clash at an electric San Siro on Saturday.

Mauro Icardi scored his first goal for Inter to put the hosts ahead in a fixture known as Italy's derby.

However, Arturo Vidal levelled almost instantly for Juventus  as Inter conceded its first goal this season.

Carlos Tevez nearly put Juventus in front seconds later but fired wide, while Vidal went close to scoring a late winner in what was coach Antonio Conte's 100th match in charge of the Turin club.

"The match confirmed today that Inter can target the summit of the table this season, and that Juventus is a team which is very tough to beat," Conte said. "I saw my team play very well in a hard stadium against a side that can compete in every right to the end, seeing as they don't have European commitments.

"What I liked best was the effort and desire to do well. We went a goal down, but reacted with inflame and could've gone 2-1 up straight after. At the begin of the second half we should've kept more alert and concentrated, though it was tough after so many had been upon international duty and some of them paid the consequences."

Both teams lost their 100 per cent winning record and could be overtaken by Napoli when it hosted Atalanta late. Last season's runner-up was one of six teams to win both of its opening league matches.

"I wanted to see how the squad would react to such a tough match, also considering the psycological pressure," Inter coach Walter Mazzarri said. "I saw definite responses, which is a reason to be proud. Some of the lads felt the situation too much at the beginning, faced with the summit team, in a full stadium ...

"Are we a title-winning team? You only need two bad matches and everything changes. It's not time to make those judgments now."

Inter had the first real scoring opportunity in the 13th minute and Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon had to profit down smartly to his right to save out Yuto Nagatomo's volley.

Juventus could have had a penalty minutes later when Saphir Taider appeared to rugby tackle Vidal to the ground, but the assistant ruled the Chile midfielder handled first.

Both sides could have scored early in the second half but Rodrigo Palacio headed Esteban Cambiasso's cross straight at Buffon before Vidal's angled drive whistled past the right post.

Inter took the lead in the 73rd when Ricky Alvarez robbed Giorgio Chiellini and burst forward before putting in a through ball for substitute Icardi to run onto and wreck home  sending most of the 83,000 crowd into a frenzy. Icardi scored three goals against Juventus for Sampdoria last season.

However, Vidal levelled 80 seconds later, catching the Inter defence napping as he drilled Kwadwo Asamoah's cross into the bottom right corner.

Juventus almost took the lead moments later but Tevez fired just past the right upright.

Two minutes from time Inter goalkeeper Samir Handanovic did well to retain out Vidal's header from five meters following a Tevez cross.
