Ribery compete with Messi and Ronaldo on the award for best player in Europe.

Bayern Munich wing forward Franck Ribery joined a shortlist of Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid and Barcelona striker Lionel Messi, candidates for the award for best player in Europe on Tuesday.

Frenchman Ribery played a major role in Bayern's winning the Champions League last season, and he's the first player from other club than Real Madrid and Barcelona who enters the shortcut menu since the UEFA began to presente the award in 2011.

The Argentine Messi won the first edition of the prize, followed by his teammate Andres Iniesta last year.

A group of journalists from the European Union member states for football will choose the winner on August 29 in Monaco.
