English League Cup: Swindon 0 - Chelsea 2.

Jose Mourinho's shadow squad came up trumps last night as Chelsea fought their way through to the next stage of the first trophy he ever won in English football.

Mourinhos first fragment of glory here was the League Cup in 2005, and last night he entrusted the task of repeating that feat to those players who still have something to prove to him, second time around.

Fernando Torres made the most of a rare Chelsea begin Tuesday by scoring one and setting up another in a 2-0 victory over third-tier club Swindon in the League Cup, while Manchester City and Tottenham advanced with stylish wins.

Torres slotted in from close range in the 29th minute, and then wriggled through the defence six minutes later before slipping the ball through to Ramires to dink the ball into the net.

"For the players who have not played in the last few matches it was fine to play - everyone is glad," Torres said. "It is one step forward."

It was the Spain striker's first domestic begin since the opening game of the season more than a month ago.

"Hopefully I'll have more chances to play in the Premier League games," he said.

Swindon Town 0-2 Chelsea - Rate the Chelsea performance tonight.

Chelsea beat Swindon 2-0 tonight with the goals (above) scored in the first half by Fernando Torres and Ramires but two injuries to Van Ginkel and Ramires have us all worried ahead of Tottenham at the weekend.

It was a professional performance from the Blues and sees us through the to the next round with the draw taking place tomorrow evening.
