Manchester United thinks of Iniesta after he rejected Barcelona's extension contract!

Andres Iniesta is reportedly depressed with the first contract offer made by Barcelona. Could he ever play at Old Trafford?

We all know what one of Manchester Uniteds greatest problems is at the moment - replacing the creative genius and overall brilliance of their diminutive maestro Paul Scholes in the centre of the park.
The fact remains, that as much as United see for a player who can embody the skills Scholes possessed they will often fall short, as many would argue there is nobody better then Scholes in his position.

The players that are as fine, if not better, are usually superstars - tied down to one team on long-term contracts with massive release clauses that are unreasonable. One such player would be Andres Iniesta.

But could a dream move actually be a possibility.

Asked me yesterday I would have said the chances of Iniesta leaving Barcelona for any club, allow alone United, were around the 0.5% range - today I would put that percentage at 30%.

Because it has long been known that the tiny maestro, often considered the third best player in the world behind Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, wants to finish his career at Barcelona.

In fact four days ago it seemed, according to Barca president Sandro Rosell that a deak that might just take the 29-year-old to the stop of his career with the Catalan side was close as he exclaimed on TV channel TV3 that the club hoped

"To be able to announce Iniesta's renewal soon. Iniesta is one of the cornerstones. He should have his rightful area behind Messi."

But according to Catalan radio station Cadena Ser this is not the case - as Iniesta has rejected the first offer.

It is believed that although Iniesta is not keen on being necessarily the second, third or fifth best paid player in the Barca squad  but nonetheless he is sad at an insufficient offer which does not meet his expectations.

Iniesta and his representatives will now reportedly go away and consider their options before returning for further talks.

His current deal expires in 2015, so the clock is ticking slightly as allowing his contract to enter its final year could be the end of making huge money for the player. And while many argue that there is no way Iniesta will depart his beloved Blaugrana, they said the similar thing about Victor Valdes - who is leaving in 2014.

Iniesta has gushed over Scholes in the past - and while it is yet very likely that Barca will save preserve of him, if there is even the remotest of chances United could ruffle his feathers and gain him thinking of a last minute career move - he could become his replacement.
