Manchester United player confirms he's leaving on January.

Manchester United striker Federico Macheda has stressed his desire to depart the club permanently in January.

The young Italian has been shipped out on loan to Doncaster Rovers by new manager David Moyes  his fourth short-term spell away from Old Trafford.

And, the 22-year-old believes its time to move upon from the Red Devils, having failed to properly fracture into the first team at Old Trafford.

"There's nothing definite still, but certainly I won't be staying with United," he said.

"As soon as the market reopens, we'll see what opportunities there are. I'm not disappointed by United's decision because I already knew how things would go.

"The new coach, [David] Moyes, has decided to focus upon the more established players, giving less space for the younger ones. Now I've just got to think about myself and continue my career in the best way possible and grow and improve."

Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson brought the Italian youth international to the club back in 2007, and he made his debut for the club the following year.

Macheda earned hero status the following year, scoring a last-minute winner against Aston Villa at Old Trafford and then again the following week against Sunderland en-route to the title.

However, things never really took off from there, and he's subsequently spent time at Sampdoria, QPR, Stuttgart and Doncaster. However, he hopes to go back to Italy when he makes a permanent exit from the Premier League champions.

"Coming back to Italy would delight me. Obviously that would be my preferred answer, but my priority now is to profit back to playing regularly," he added.

"Being a fan of Lazio, playing for them would be the ultimate. After two unfortunate games against Juventus, they have now bounced back and go into the derby in the best of shape. It's a hard game which has a story of its own. Roma will be annoyed and will desire revenge."
